down time {some r&r at eilan hotel}

a note from brandi, owner + creative director...

This post is something a little different for us...a tad more personal if you will. Here in South Texas, July and August can often be times for wedding coordinators to refuel, re-energize, and spend some personal time with our families. Wedding season slows a bit from the mad dash of March thru June and you feel that you have a moment to breathe. A major priority during this time for me is to make my family my number one priority.

One fun thing we did this summer was celebrate my little one's 3rd birthday at Eilan Hotel Resort & Spa. My husband Colby and I {married 4 years as of a few days ago}, have two sweet and stinking cute girls, Reagan 3 and Bailey 7 years old. We carted them to the hotel for an evening and became parents of the year. We are self-admitted home-bodies. There's something about a Friday night at home, grilling in the back, texas country on the radio and barefoot that just feels like home for us. So that being said, when we told the girls we were going to Eilan, they were screaming and jumping up and down telling us how they were going to be like Rapunzel & Justin Beiber.

When we arrived, and after the girls ooo'ed and aaah'ed at the lobby, elevator, and eventually our room, we took them swimming. Eilan Hotel has a special kids pool which we loved. Their main guest pool is stunning...palapas, water features, bar...everything you need for a swanky + refreshing experience. There were a group of women there, and numerous couples that looked like they were kicking off a romantic weekend. It was nice to have our own little area with our kids. As a parent, it's a pain constantly feeling like you may be intruding on romance + adult time with your kiddos so the kiddie part was fabulous. We still had the palapas, great service and overall amazing experience too.

After completely wearing the kiddos out in the pool we headed upstairs. The girls were highly impressed by the fact that they could watch cartoons in bed, but if they need a potty break, they could still listen via the speakers in the bathroom. I'm telling you, I love these ages (easy to impress). Our oldest informed us that the beds were probably the softest in the world and very expensive. Our youngest tested this out by making sure they were jump-friendly.

While the girls were busy testing out the kid approved luxury rating of the beds, hubs and I were busy quieting our rumbling tummies and scouring the menu. We decided on mac-n-cheese for the girls, the rack of lamb for me, and venison for him. I like you, so I won't tease you by giving you a bite by bite run through of my entire meal, but let's just say I'm pretty sure we licked our plates clean. Yes, that's allowed behind closed doors just in case you were wondering.

We followed up dinner with sitting through Disney shows with the girls and attempting not to fall asleep before they did. Around 9pm we had a surprise knock at the door. Of course the hubs went to see who was there and came back with milk and cookies! The hotel staff heard it was our little ones birthday and sent up a late night treat! The cookies were like heaven...warm and gooey and the perfect amount of sweet and chocolate. And the milk was devoured by the girls...every last drop.

We left early the next morning and didn't get the chance to enjoy the famous breakfast at Sustenio, but hey...I needed an excuse to go back. Here's a photo of my little ones, Reagan on the left and Bailey on the right. This is what we were doing when I wasn't returning emails and phone calls for an evening...much needed :)
